Is there a process for obtaining actual decals for legitimate Fender basses?
I'm in the process of restoring a mid 80s MIJ Fender Jazz Special which at some point had a hole drilled in the headstock to make it a 5 string (WHY they would try and run 5 strings through a neck that skinny I have no idea). But it's right through half of the decal and is now just an ugly looking repair job with some wood filler stuff in it. I can repair the headstock just fine, but I need a new decal. I've put plenty of customized ones on for projects, but this one is an actual Fender neck that I want to put an actual Fender decal on under the clearcoat (so it will yellow like the original). This logo is also a bit different than most since it's on a black headstock, so I'm thinking Fender is the only place I could get one that looks right unless I try to get someone to copy it, which I don't really want to do.
Should I just contact a local authorized Fender repair shop and see what they tell me? I've searched on this but its mostly threads about putting decals on non-Fender necks which isn't much help.
Thanks for any insight.

Well no, the only way the dealer was going to get me a decal was if they did the refin work. But I already did the refin work. I had to go underground. |

I'm going to see if Fender won't get me a new one. I've contacted a local Fender repair center and am going to see if they can do it. If they don't have them available, well I guess I will have to figure something else out.

I took the neck I have to a local Fender authorized repair center, and the guy contacted Fender about getting a new decal. He needed the take pictures of the neck AND the body. Fender won't give you one just for the neck, they need to verify that the whole instrument is genuine. So we got that all taken care of and now Fender is sending him a new decal since they actually have decals for these basses in stock. It surprised me that they have them, but I'm not complaining!
So I can repair and refinish the neck myself, but Fender requires their authorized service guy to apply it. So I have to take it back to him to get that done before doing the clear coat. A little bit of a process and inconvenience, but at least it's going to work out and I don't have to half-@ss it with a fake decal!
