What's the general consensus on this bass? Search didn't come up anything recent in the forums.

The pick guard looks like crap, but it sounds like it would be a nice bass overall. As far as I can determine it's MIM but with American made parts(?). None local to me that I can go try out AFAIK.

I had one of these in the late '80s. At that time they had basswood bodies and were made in Japan. The build quality on mine was fine, but I did not like the electronics. I've got a few (obviously very old) recordings I made with it, though, and with the perspective of this much time it actually sounded pretty good.

I had a MIM one , CAR w/rosewood.... very nice playing and sounding Bass.... I moved up an Am. P-Bass Deluxe 'cause I like the carbon neck rods...... If I had the $$ I'd get one in CAR w/maple in a heartbeat.....

Love mine. Picked it up used at a great price. Had a cold solder joint. Wasn't fond of the pickguard until I found a matching strap! Like it now. Plays well. I like the neck.

I recently bought an Amer. Fender Deluxe P bass as a close-out discontinued price $1100. Its Montigo black and it does have an ugly pickguard. the sound is great and I'll eventually replace the pick-guard......Worth getting used or new IMO......

These are awful. The necks warp easy and the frets just melt away. The pre-amp sounds cold and mechanical and the finish is covered in flaws. The pickguard also looks cheap and unrealistic.

But most of all, don't buy them because I want them all to myself. Seriously my favorite bass.
