IMO, that's an impossible question to answer. they are both good basses, but would have to be evaluated on an individual basis.

They will both sound and play amazing. Each and every bass has its own unique voice and no 2 basses sound the same...even if they look identical. Each would have to be played before this question could be answered.

The very early '82 AVI Precisions were a bit of a work in progress. Plastic wiring insulation, slightly goopy finish, pots with plastic shafts. They do sound good, and are mostly lightweight, but I would probably swap my 1982 AVS fo a Custom Shop model.

Upload your images through the advanced settings as thumbnails.

Given the choice between a production model and a custom shop model, I would always go with the custom shop.

Well I wouldn't swap my VS '62 P bass (bought new in April 1985, the first batch of Vintage Series instruments Fender shipped to the store I managed- the same time they shipped almost all of the VS back-orders) for anything. It's simply the perfect Precision bass for me.

But the original question is very much one that can only be answered by comparing specific individual instruments. It comes down to how does THIS chunk of wood and metal sound and feel in MY hands when I play it. There simply ain't gonna be "another one JUST like it".

Both are nice basses.
But there is a reason the early Fullerton basses are going up in price.
They are that good.
I would not trade my 1982, 62-P-bass for a CS bass.
Maybe a CS "Pino" P-bass

I have a Fullerton RI Jazz, and a Custom Shop NOS P. Both are great. But your question is about a CS Relic.
My Fullerton has naturally aged and reliced on it's own, looks every bit the 'real deal' because it is real. I've got absolutely nothing against CS Relic remakes, but I would not pick a faux relic over a real relic if I had to choose, seeings both will run within a few hundred dollars of each other.
