Joseph, the newer versions are better I hear. I gigged mine on both my gigs this weekend and the bass is definitely worth a little extra work. It's easy to learn how to do set ups by reading up on it right here on TB. That's what I did.

My '62 AVRI Jazz in Oly White upon arrival. Birthdate 2012. She is a tone monster already and soon will be sporting TI flats. Trying now to sort out which J basses to keep long term, but already know this is "the permanent one," as the song goes.

Here is a pretty decent homemade live recording I captured on a gig this past weekend. A local pro friend of mine sat in on bass for a couple of tunes. He is playing my '62 AV which was made when they were still called RI (1994). Playing through my Shuttle 6.0 and Epifani PS 112 with flat EQ except for the bass boost filter knob. Tone knobs are either wfo or slightly rolled off, I can't remember. This tone and this sound is why I love this particular bass so much. He gets it to really play like it was built to. His attack is aggressive enough to get some Jaco tones out of it, even though the pickups are not set for that sound and the strings are TI flats. Hope you enjoy.

Been using that combo for three years running, can't see any reason to change it.

I generally get a setup on my basses then leave them alone...perhaps i'm not overly fussy about all that but i'm concerned what i'm gonna run into with this beautiful new '62.

Not everybody. The neck on my AV62 has been rock solid since the day I bought it 5 years ago, haven't had to touch the truss once. Strung it with La Bella 760FL flats and haven't had to do anything since, action stays put, no issues whatsoever.

The newer necks are more stable from what I read. Also climate plays a large role.

Excellent tone and playing. It makes me want to revisit TI's on one of my Jazz basses!
