| | Registered User | | | | The Jazz has been my favorite bass since I played the first one with round wound strings in 1974, It was used. It was black with a mirror pickguard. I was foolishly obsessed with Chris Squire and chasing Rickenbacker 4001's at the time; but, I knew then and there that the J was the bass for me.
When I got out of grad school in 1987 (and had a little money), I bought this black 62, which I still have and which has been a mainstay gigging bass.
There have been a whole bunch that have come and gone. The most recent acquisition is this Shoreline Gold specimen I just acquired on eBay. It will receive one of Roger Sadowsky's about to be released preamp assemblies to make a Fendowsky. YAY!
And, just for giggles, here is the 62 out on a gig about a year back, just to show it sees gig time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNh1lvtSzzk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0ZXF...eature=related
Don't need a number; just want to show my support for my fav bass through all the years. Go Jazz!

Then, Alembic came along and you know how the story goes. Back then we did NOT ever have more than one bass at a time. One of the reasons it took me so long to get back to a Jazz.

My theory about the change in bass appetites is the INTERNET. We are constantly seeing all of the fantastic basses available for sale and we want MORE. |

Sound, feel and weight!!
I still am not totally comfortable with the relic'ed look but wanted to try one based on the rave reviews here on TB. I played one at a local shop and had to have one. My only real complaint about mine is a little neck dive.

1983 Jazz - Owned and signed by Jason Newstead formally of Metallica:
My 1973 "Geddy". Best sounding/playing Jazz I have ever touched. Under 8lbs and the neck is the thinnest Jazz neck I have ever seen. It has a black PG currently(middle bass n the bottom pic). This one will be buried with me:
