And you couldn't allow yourself a little white lie in front of the Jazz Bass Club audience? Have you no heart? Where's your sensitivity? ;-)

Yeah, it's kind of luck of the draw with these to buy sight unseen, but I wound up with a real beauty. Plays wonderfully. Little heavy and needs a pup upgrade but other than that, its great!

ha! i do love my j! i have to say that its more versital. i will always be faithful to my p, but i have solid piece of mind knowing that if i'm not getting a particular sound i want, then i can always pull it out of my j. the p sound is my fav though, but imo its pretty much a one trick pony, but the j on the other hand can give me that bite when i need it!

Here is my MIM Standard.

It now has EMG JX pickups.

Sure I'll take a number if any are left.

How do like them EMGs? I have a pair of EMG Js waiting to be slotted into my J. Also have a pair of Quarter Pounders. Can't decide which to try out first

First, getting the battery jumper (the red bar) and the battery in were major-league hemmorhoids. I had to do a good bit of sanding and routing in the control cavity.

Second, once things went together and were making sound, I learned the EMGs were not as hot as I expected. However, with my amp in a "sweet spot," the tone really showed. I didn't buy the EMGs for any specific sound- what I wanted was more usable sounds. The pickups and the active tone control do just that. No noise, no volume drops or increases when turning the tone knob.

Third, I made another change as well. I have D'Addario Chromes flatwounds on the bass now.

The result: Still a jazz bass, but it's a richer, fuller, more versatile jazz bass.
