| | Registered User | | Join Date: May 2001 Location: Evansville, Indiana | | I've had a few Fender Jazzes come-and-go thru the years, but this one is a keeper for the specific needs I have and it can fulfill. It's a super-clean 2005 Fender Jazz 24, their first mass-production 24-fret Jazz Bass that I purchased from Bass Northwest last week. It's a MIK - not that you'd notice it in any negative, the QC is thru-the-roof on this line and beats the vast majority of MIM Basses I've played, which I can say is not an isolated incident as I owned a 5-string version for a month in the Fall of 2010 before returning it as the 19mm spacing was too wide for my Spector-trained hands - that's equipped with a “Tobacco Sunburst” finish Quilted Maple top (some say it's a veneer, but on the much-less produced "Cherry Sunburst" finish I've seen the separation line between the two woods and is a fairly substantial piece on top) on Alder body, Hipshot Ultralight Tuners and String-thru-Top/String-thru-body High-Mass Bridge (possible made by Gotoh, as I’ve seen almost the exact same bridge released under their name proper), Bassline SJB-3 “Quarter Pounder” Jazz Bass pickups, and a easily respectable “Duncan Designed” 3-band EQ with Sweepable Mids and a preset “Mid Cut” switch for Slap Bass tonalities. Damn nice Bass for $499 Barely Used with absolutely no headstock or body dings and just the slightest buffable pick swirl on the front!
…and yet as nice as this Bass is, it’s not going to keep its form for long. I’ve purchased this to be the “base” for what I’ve been describing as my “EFX (Effects) Bass” for several years now. This will consist mainly of a Kahler Bass Tremolo and Bass Sustainiac (for those of you unfamiliar with the much more common Guitar version, a “Sustainer” is almost the reverse of a pickup, sending out magnetic energy as opposed to picking it up and creating non amp-driven feedback, in both the fundamental as well as harmonics and a “Mix Mode” that transitions from fundamental to harmonics like “real” feedback does - Bassist Terry Law came up with the same concept independently and has some great examples up on YouTube) Used “clean” with no effects to a little SVT-type Overdrive it sounds very much like the “Natural Grumble” of a bowed Upright Bass, while with more extreme effects it’s very much like an effected guitar: think the late Peter Steele of “Type O Negative” who used custom-made Bass Sustainer-equipped Basses with large amount of Distortion and Chorusing when playing his “Lead Bass” parts in TON’s songs. Unfortunately because of how the Sustainiac works it can’t work with any “standard” pickups close to it, which is why I’ll also be routing out the Bridge position for a Music Man-type pickup, which will allow me 3 separate pickup arraignments: standard J/J (with the Music Man coil-cut engaged), Lakland and modern StingRays w/ multiple pickup J/MM, or only the full MM at the bridge when the Sustainiac is in use.
So while I wait to meet with my Tech and go over what our Game Plan is for the Grand Installation & Wiring of such a Beast, I’m having a great time playing her just as a "Working Bassist's" Mike Lull and Sadowsky-inspired modern downsized “Dinky J” body and 24 fret bass. And even when her operation is a success (“She’s Alive!!”), she’s still be a Fender at heart… (Bass NW Photos, I haven't had a chance to take my own yet...)

| | | Just picked up my MIM Fender Deluxe Active Jazz last weekend. Been a bit of a homecoming, my primary bass for years was a 2001 MIM Jazz that had some hum issues so lately I had been stuck using my backup basses. Absence definitely makes the heart grow fonder, I'm in love with the instrument again.
Currently strung with Chromes, planning to restring with Roto 77s because the Chromes are a bit too low tension tuned down a step. Definitely loving the versitility again after being 'stuck' with a Stingray style bass. It also made my phaser sound so much more full, seems it was 'garbage in, garbage out' before.
Would love a number. |

| | | | Jazz Bass Fret ZERO Vintage MASTER BUILT Hey guys
BIG Question here.
Who out there in JAZZ BASS "Planet," has heard of, or better still, own one of these only 50 made basses by Master Builder Dennis Glazuska between 2006 and 2008 in the Custom Shop (of course).
The list price was $6000 back then.
Some features included:
Zero fret
3 Band EQ
Ice Blue Metallic (only )
Limited Edition decals and case etc etc.
Master Built
Only 50 made
I met a bassist ( son of a musical pioneer ) who had been give this model by Fender.
It took me 2 days of research on the internet and 2 calls to Fender ( my first call lasting about 20 minutes yielded zero results, with the second call, the consultant had indeed remembered this model ). Why even one of the most knowledgeable and avid Jazz Bass collectors I know in town has not even heard of this model.
So do any of you all have pics of this bass and personally own one. I am seriously lusting this model right now.
