Fender jazz bass question

Hi all,

I think that the time came for me to buy a fender jazz. I should say that I always liked jazz's sound and look but never owned one. I will definitely get a US jazz but I am a bit confused. I always liked the 70's block inlays look. I find (especially the white with rosewood) 74 vintage jazz very attractive and quite pricey though.
So my question is:
Do you think that those new vintage jazz (I am talking about 63 and 74) are sound wise superior to the american standard, and do they worth the extra money?

Thanks

I haven't played the new american vintage jazz basses. But I do have a 2012 American standard and it to me it sounds like a million bucks and is as light as a feather. If you decide to go American Standard you won't be disappointed.
