Had the opportunity to catch Hey Rosetta! last night in Burnstown, ON. They put on a hell of a show, and their bassist (Joshua Ward) completely blew me away. He has been a huge influence on me for a long time and is one of the most underrated bassists in rock music IMO. If you haven't checked him out, you have to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8s4m6CB6Tg
Anyway, one thing that caught my eye, aside from his great playing, was the bass he was playing. It was a black Fender Jazz bass, but rather than having two straight single coil pickups, his had two P-style pickups in their place (one in neck and bridge position).
The guy had a really nice snarl going on, something I always dug about him. His bass sounds aggressive, with this low-mid purr that stands out just enough without being overpowering and obnoxious.
I was wondering if anyone out there has ever seen a bass like this before. I'm not big into Fender's so excuse my ignorance if I'm completely crazy for thinking this was something special.
