Fender MIJ '62 Re-Issue
I am currently looking for 2 basses:
1) Fender MIJ '62 re-issue of a Jazz bass.
2) Fender MIJ '62 re-issue of a P bass. (kind of like James Jamersons')
I have heard many things about re-issues not really being re-issue and just being named that without any of the detail to recreate the instruments.
So my question is: what years and series of Fujigen MIJ Fender Jazz and P basses are actual correct re-issue's of the Original '62 basses?
As always Cheers,
I am not a historian, far from it - so I wouldn't know which models you would consider "correct" re - issues - but there are a number of 1962 Re-Issues available from Fender Japan:

and you can see a number of 1962 re-issues. The ones above are labeled 62US which might put you in the ball park of what you are looking for - available in a number of colors.
Of course, you may be interested in used, so disregard if that is the case.
If you want a great bass go ahead and buy the MIJ '62. If you want a more accurate '62 buy an AVRI.
I have a MIJ 80s P bass. How do I know if its a RI?
Its black with white pg and maple fretboard and it has the holes in the PG where the pickup cover would go. However it has EMGs in it which i HATE so it never gets used.
