In a Fender (or VM Squier) Mustang... you won't be able to fit a super distortion. You could rout the body and pickguard and maybe fit a DP100 in there.

On the WAY EASIER side of the coin... a Fender Musicmaster/Squier Bronco/Squier Vista Musicmaster can take a DP218 strat sized, humbucker rail Super Distortion pickup with absolutely no modding of the body or pickguard.

it's not difficult to remove wood with a chisel but it's a PITA to try and cleanly modify the pickguard
