Fender Mustang but what colour?

Sign in to disble this ad
Well I've got a reissue Mustang which I love.....apart from the colour that is. Fiesta Red with white pearl is not my cup of tea to say the least. So i'm thinking of getting it refinished but I'm having a hard time deciding what colour to go for. I was thinking of somthing like the pic, a dark red with a plain black/black pearl plate, but i'm not sure.

Any other ideas? Seeming as i'm going through all this trouble getting it sprayed I feel I should go for somthing a bit special is all. I know I definitely want a black/black pearl/tortoise shell plate. I also like the green, but not the scratch plate and i think that green would be too light for a dark plate!

Also, while i've got your attention, what's the opinion on Precision pick-ups on a Mustang? I've seen it on a few on the net and wondered if it was a plausible idea.

Thanks!

Don't you dare strip it .

Better thing to do is if you like the Mustang bass see about switching for someone that wants a red one . I have a white with tort pick and to be honest I wouldn't mind a Fiesta Red .

Prolly would want the tort pickguard but can always buy a new one........... PM if interested .

The guitarist in my band did an Axe Wrap on his guitar. Looks great. I don't know if the uncut versions would fit a bass or not, but it might be worth checking out. You can't even tell it's not paint.

You want to strip a shortscale bass and add a P pickup?
well dont trash a perfectly good Mustang!!

get a cheap Squier Bronco
have a custom guard made from Jeannies or Pickguardian
and get yourself a nice p bass pickup and a Mustang control plate from http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/middle_bass.htm

Just get one from Ishibashi (U-Box used store) in Japan.

Aero makes an aftermarket P/U for the Mustang but I do hear many like the stock P/U.

oops...I see you already have a Mustang. I should read posts better before replying.

If you strip and paint it, you reduce its value significantly. Change the pickguard to something you like better and live with it. Black pearloid would be a neat touch. I don't know about the reissues, but in most of Fender's line Fiesta Red isn't a color you find every day.

I'm a fan of the OEM pickups on the Mustang RI. It has more cajones than the older Mustang/Bullet pickup and, IME, is firmly entrenched in P bass pickup territory.
