2008 MIM, 2011 MIA, and 2012 MIM with chrome covers and thumb rest attached with double sided tape. I actually find the white MIM to be the best one of the three,
Speaking of chrome covers, those are currently taped on with double sided tape. The reason for this was because i initially wasnt sure if i wanted them on or not, so i taped them on as sort of a "trial run". Ive decided i like them there and it plays comfortably, so i was thinking of removing the tape and using screws to hold them on like normal. However, being an MIM standard, it does not have the holes for them. So my question is, is it possible to drill a hole through a pickguard with a normal drill, like you would do with the body near the bridge? Or is this not recommended? |

It was that way when I got it a year ago, along with the chips and cracks in the poly-coat (I've been thinking of doing a little drop-filling to protect the exposed wood, but I'll save that for another thread). Beyond that, everything was, and still is, in excellent working order. How 'bout yours? How's it holding up?

I'm not a Fender owner (like someone earlier, a Warwick 5-string $$ Corvette and a Lakland 55-01 fretless owner) and I'd like to get some advice on whether the less expensive mfg site Fender models are "fender-y" enough to warrant buying one.....I'm looking at a local craigslist MIM jazz bass for a good price. It's around 1992 manufacture date. Can the Fender mafioso tell me if that is worth owning? Will it offer a "Fender experience"?
In my experience the Lakland Skyline series while cheaper than the US is definitely a Lakland experience.....that's the kind of input I'm looking for on Fender MIM in that timeframe (1992).
Thanks!

Thanks! | Yes definitely worth it, but personally, I would get a MIM from 2001 and after. I'm not crazy about the MIMs before the 2001 redesign - the pickups were different and the bodies were poplar.
I've owned two MIMs - a 2002 Jazz Bass V, and a 2011 Precision Bass. The Jazz was awesome, but the Precision really plays like a dream.
