Only P I've ever tried (that was a Fender) was the Tony Franklin signature, of which the overall bass by far makes up for it. Vintage Fenders (if you get a good one), are awesome though, so I wish you well!! I actually got a 77' Jazz from my teacher's shop a couple weeks ago. He's a boutique (Ken Smith specifically) guy though, so he didnt think much of it.

My 8-lb 1970 P certainly suffers from neck dive.
But I may not know what i'm talking about.

IME. YMMV.
I have a light (8 lb) MIM P that is the same. Although the neck dive was minimal, it was enough to notice. I put Hipshot Ultralight tuners on it to minimize the problem.

Neck dive on a late 70's P bass? Never! The body's weight a ton.

I used to own a MIJ fender precision that had quite bad neck dive due to it having a very light body. I sold this bass as it used to hurt my shoulder when playing standing up as I had to hold the neck up whilst playing.
Shame because it sounded brilliant. I often wish I'd kept it as the Hipshot lightweight tuners you can get now probably would've solved the problem.
