Fender P bass Elite 2, two different neck plates?

I have noticed that on the 1983 Fender P bass elite 2 series basses, some have a Lower case "E", and some an uppercase. Just curious what the reason is for this?

No idea, funny though since they only made these in 1983 so you'd think there wouldn't be time to mess around with different type.
