Fender Pbass?? What Does this look like??

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey TB,

A friend of mine, found a bass in his basement of his new house..
and he was going to sell it on on CL.. Until a friend urged him to wait
till we figure out exactly what he has...

Here is the link to the add..
He is not selling now so please dont respond to the add..
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/msg/1886771930.html

From the bad pics, to me at first glance it looks like an overseas knockoff or possibly 80's overseas Pbass..
It has no visible serial number..
the only thing it has is a sticker on the back SB310
I havent seen it in person yet, I will see it on Monday

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks everyone...

i think its a knockoff. the volume knob isnt fender standard but that is something that can be changed. theres the bridge to neck distance as mentioned above. also i feel like the pickups look really low on the body but that could just be me. usually fender guitars/basses have more written on the headstock then just "fender". fender logos are also really easy to get i.e. knockoffs are easy to make

So, is it a Fender neck attached to a miscellaneous body? (Hmm, check if the Fender logo is a sticker.)

Nah,fender has never had a neck on any model bass that just says 'fender' and nothing else. Always specifies the model.

I think if it was a real Fender, the sellers of the home would have taken it with them.

hahaha! "pretty firm on 200$" He will never get that unless there ia another person as "special" as him.

I would say he would be lucky to get 50$ for that

I don't mean to bring this thread off-topic, but Fender does sometimes do that for their lefty instruments. Case-in-point:

Fender has a history of not really knowing how to label their lefty headstocks. My guess is that for the Jaguar, they only make the large waterslide-style decal which wouldn't fit on a lefty headstock, hence the lone "fender" decal.

That looks like a full scale neck on a p body setup for short scale. Maybe this was somebody’s project gone wrong?

Yep , but that still does not specify a model, if it said fender guitar that does not specify a model eithier, telecaster, jazz , precision etc is the model , Fender is the brand , bass or guitar is the instrument.

If you want to get technical, which I obviously do

Actually in the 60's, the black jazz basses with matching headstocks only said Fender on the headstock and nothing else, because it was black.

The craiglist bass is a knock off, nothing on that body is Fender.

The first Mustangs had only Fender on the headstock.
