The skinny neck is my favorite part.

I've only felt one skinny neck I felt comfortable playing. I likes me some C-width necks!

That headstock is hideous!!!

But still, that's actually a cool body!

I'm surprised Fender doesn't offer it or something similarly less traditional.

Throw in some soapbar pickups, round off the top horn side edge a little (get rid of that angle, too pointy), change the headstock design, offer it in a nice natural finish with a tortoise shell pickguard and that would look HAWT!

Wish I had photoshop on this PC!

Thank you for saying this! I don't have one of these but I got a bass recently (Vantage 930b) with a super thin neck and I'm just not getting into it though I like it in every other respect. Glad I'm not the only one.

That dude sure loves his performer. I think that's all he plays in his videos..

And I just saw the guitar version here:

Someone on the Acoustic Guitar Forum posted this one. He's got quite the collection of vintage axes. He's actually selling this one.

Performer/supersonic bass

Just found this thread - I am one who digs the Performer for many reasons, and also don't personally care for a couple of things about it. Wanted one but can't see popping the over a grand price they go for. So I'm making my own w/mods. If interested, check out my Luthiers Corner thread - Performer/Supersonic bass.

I have actually wanted one of these since I first saw them yrs ago. I am still kicking myself for not grabbing one when it came up on CL 3 yrs ago. I have LOTS of normal basses but I still covet this ABBY-normal bass. Never forget every once in a while you should take a walk on the wild side!

Very rare. I tried one when they first came out. Ultra thin necks. Too much so even though I generally like slim necks. I'm not sure if they even got made for the whole of 86. Maybe just half the year for fender actually making em.

The Performer was my 1st bass. I adored the tone and dug the overall aesthetic vibe. But the tone of that thing(stock) with stainless rounds thru my 400RB was dreamy. Sure, the neck was way thin, but I slapped that thing like mad learning the Flea & Claypool stuff that was popular at the time.

Edsel Ford worked for Fender for a short time, this was his only contribution.

Update: At the end of 2012 Performer basses in very good to excellent condition were selling for around $1000. They peaked in March- June closer to $1300. I have Tobacco Burst, Gun Metal Blue and White. Willing to talk to anyone wishing to sell a Burgundy Mist or Candy Green Metalic.
