Fender precicion bass active deluxe special

Sign in to disble this ad
Im thinking of getting the Fender precicion bass active deluxe special and was thinking of switching the pickups for some bartolini p-j's dont remember the exact models but the aim is to get a more punchy mid's and bottom's. What do people think of this idea, does any have any experience with p basses with bartolinis? and how hard of a job is it to do? (also i think the gold scrtch plate is not very nice does any one know of where i can get a 4 knob p bass scratch gard in white?)

So you've never even played the bass and you hate the pickups?

Ive played the bass in a shop and i like it and im quite taken taken with p-j basses whith the way they look and the sound but itn not quite the sound im aiming for. Ive also heared the pickups on a wawrick lx se which is getting towards the sound i wanted, however there little out of my price bracket so i was hoping that by changing the pick ups on the fender it would give it what i was looking for. (thanks for the link)

Sorry, but the best way to make a Fender sound like a Warwick is to by a Warwick. Talk about two totally different animals! Surely you can find a Warwick for the same price as a Fender, isn't that Fender like $1000 or so?

I have Barts on my Warmoth G5 .. though not PJ I think most all the "classic" Barts have the same kind of tonality, warm and full. The Barts would change the sound of the Fender but you might need to change the Pre Amp too.

Best of luck....

I played this bass yesterday at GC and it sounded awesome. It looked pretty cool as well. IMHO the gold pick guard looked good againt the ivory. You can google pickgaurds and I'm sure something will come up.

Will those pickguards fit the Mexican model? I've been looking to get the brown pearloid one to replace the gold stock one.

I've had the mim Deluxe Active P bass special since January of 09 and it hasn't let me down at all. I just recently had a Basslines SPB-3 put in and it drastically improved my tone.

You can get a pick guard from WD Guitar Products. Just Google the name. You have to request the 4 hole option for active pickups.
