Fender precision bass or Ibanez SRX350 ?

Sign in to disble this ad
hi all!

I need your advice, I have the chance to buy a

Fender standard precision bass like this one:

http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....LAID=340921439

Or a Ibanez SRX350 like this:

http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....tar?sku=515063

The guy in the store told me that the SRX had better sound because it is an active bass and it has high, med, and low tone control, I'm newbie so I still don't know which one is the better option.

I mostly like rock pop music, so what do you think guys ?

Thanks a lot!

The SRX only has bass and treble controls, it doesn't have a mid control. The Fender doesn't have any eq. I personally prefer SRXs to precisions but most people will disagree. I say get the SRX.

If you can find an SR500 I'd give that a try before you buy.

My advice: Go for a used Fender Standard. I bought one, and I love it. $250.

Can't go wrong with a P. Especially if you're a n00b.

the new mexi standards are much better than previous years IMO.
im a pbass guy, i love the new ones. tone, volume, thats all you need.
they sound phenominal, calssic tone.
im not a huge fan of active basses though.

my biggest advice: go play both side by side and see what you like.
in the end thats all that matters.

I'd go for the Fender. But I am biased: I don't like active electronics. But you can do everything you need on a P: it's a great workhorse of a bass. I love mine!

Best bet would be try both and see what you like. A P bass or an SRX is'nt necesarly for everyone (depending on what kinda sound you like).

I too am a little biased. I say get the SRX. Or both if you can afford it.

I agree

You really should try them out 1st, and get the one you like.
Can you go to a music store and try them out?
They will have a different feel to each other. The necks are completely different.

The Ibanez will have a more versatal tonal range, but the P bass is the standard. Some people dont like active electronics some do.

I like them both!

Years ago, I'd have SR300DX, SR800 and SR885, lots of controls, sweepable mid, eq... When I jump to a P, I never look back.
Now I have a Fender P and a MM stingray as a backup.
The P sound cut in the mix by itself, no eq needed.
