It runs in cycles.
Back in the 60's &70's there were more Precision players.
The 80's 90's saw a swing to the Jazz Bass.
Now it seems more player are going over to the Precision again. (But not by much)
Both are iconic basses.

I'm a precision player.
Though electronics-wise, my bass is nowhere near a stock P anymore. I just like the neck.

Should this not be a poll?

that said: J bass for me. Why for? two reasons: I prefer the thinner neck, and I like having two pickups.

Jazz is my preferred, though I use a Precision from time to time.

Jazz, because it was easier to find a cheap 5 string

My Aerodyne Jazz. I prefer the jazz neck and body style, but I spend most of the time playing with the P pickup.

Jazz ... I've got 3 (including the Sadowsky).

To me they're more a "do everything" instrument plus I've got small hands so I like the skinny neck

By choice precision. But as of lately a Jazz because I cannot afford the American std. precision 5

I use both (my J is a Hamer) but I prefer the feel of the P. Both sound great to me.

Definitely both, they're everywhere and can be found for so cheap that it only makes sense to have at least one of each.

However, if I could only have one, I'd definitely keep my Jazz. The neck is perfection (for me), and the pickups offer more tonal variety.

I have two Jazz basses (one sq jazz and a Fender Jag) that get little play but I enjoy them when theyre needed.

I have a MIJ Precision Lyte and a MIA Fender Bullet P (they all have SD quarter pounders) that I use way more regularly. Been using the Bullet for the past 3 months exclusively as a matter of fact.

All of the bases I own are jazz style (2 pickups, skinny neck) (well, except with the G&L, that's more of a P neck).

I do play a precision too, but I think I prefer jazz basses overall

Cool Double your pleasure.

Two of each. A pair with flats and a pair with rounds.
