Fender Precision Std or Precision Special???

Calling all Fender players. Which would you prefer and why? A MIM 4-string Fender Precision Standard or A MIM 4-string Fender Precision Special (with P/J pups config)? Both with rosewood necks.

Personally, I prefer Jazz basses, but if I had to pick from those two, I'd choose the Special because I like the growl I get from having a bridge pup.

Without it the P is fine for bass & thump but I really use a mix of tones and having 2 pups is great for me.

I prefer the standard Precision set up. Why? Because I like that tone. Jazz bass sounds are just fine but I had the coice & I liked the P-tone over-all better.

You could get the JP config & have both options.

If you get the special, you will have the P Tone and, when you are in the mood, the growling Jazz tone.

Does the one Jazz pickup really output a sound such as a regular jazz bass? I do not have any experience with Jazz basses, always been a Precision bass guy myself. Does the J and P pups sound great together and along with the tone?

I really like using both pickups together, to me it sounds like a Jazz bass with balls. The P soloed sounds like, well a P. The J soloed sounds too thin.

I take the special.. I have the Hot rodded US P which is the same thing and what I like "being a BIG Fan" of the P'bass is I can turn down the J pickup for a traditional P'sound but I can also turn that Jazz (bridge) back up for a nice presence type sound..

if you have loud guitars with alot of distortion and maybe tuned down I always prefered a P'bass in that mix---> even my stingray has to fight its way out of that wall of sound..

Special is the BEST of both worlds
