I had a 2001 '60's classic (with the poly finish) and now have two RW Jazzes. I have owned a '69 Jazz and played a large number of older Jazzes. To me the classics and RW sound darn near as good as many mid '60s vintage instruments—though the rosewood and alder of yesteryear were certainly superior.
I found the stock RW Jazzes to sound and feel better than my classic when it was stock. I think the body wood is lighter and perhaps the bodies are a few sixteenths of an inch thinner on the Road Worns. The necks have a great worn feel on the RW basses. The older classics were finished in heavy poly.
Starting this year, as I understand it, the classics come finished with nitro. Seems like it would be worth trying one back to back with a Road Worn.
