Fender Standard Precision Bass - Model Post 2006 - Mexican Made...Thoughts?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys. I recently bought a Mexican made Fender Standard P Bass. The serial # is not listed in Fender product date database, so it's probably a model made after 2006 (2006 is the last year listed for this model.)

I purchased the guitar from Guitar Center for $430. It sounds pretty good to me, especially with the Rotosound strings that I just put on it. However, I'm still pretty novice when it comes to knowing what to look for in a good quality bass.

What do you guys think? Should I return it and look for an older model?
A friend told me that 90's Mexican models are much better quality and that they sound better.

Thoughts? Thanks! I could really use the input.

If it feels good to you, and sounds good to you, keep it. Don't worry about what others say about it so much.

I don't believe your friend. It's true that SOME 90's Mexican models are better-made and/or better-sounding than SOME newer models, but it's also true that SOME newer models are better-made and better-sounding than SOME of the 90's models.

The bottom line is if you are happy with the way it sounds and plays, keep it. Why would you return a bass you like because of something someone tells you?

The next time you're in Guitar Center, try out some other basses. If you find one you like a whole lot better - and you can afford - trade in your current bass for the one YOU think is better. I'm betting you'll be keeping that Mexican P for quite a while!

I recently bought a Road Worn P bass made in Mexico. Sounds great to me which is all that counts. The serial # is not on the neck plate but came with a tag when I received it.
