I had a Sherwood Green Urge I...I called it a "sports car" bass because it was so nimble with that tiny 32 in. scale neck.
Here's a video of Stu playing an Urge I: Link

| | | | I have never played the Urge II, but I did play a friend's Urge I at a few gigs back in the early 90s. The bass played incredibly fast and had a killer neck. The pickups were interesting to get used to. I liked one setting above others and was told that it was with just the p pickup on. 32" scale p bass sounds great...

I had a rented bass at the time because my dad wanted to see if I would stick with it. When we went to the Music Store (Skips in Sacramento, Ca) we found the MIM version and it became my "first bass." I liked it a lot when I was younger, so I bought a used Urge I MIA when I was in college and I liked it so much I bought the Urge II that was killer. I got rid of it becuase I was playing a lot of Metal and needed to get another 5 string. I traded it in on a Modulus Q5. I sorta always wanted to get another one...

.... | Foolishly, I sold it years ago during a period of downsizing.
I never gigged with it as I was between bands during the period that I owned it.
I didn't really care for the preamp as I thought it sounded pretty sterile. At one point I removed the preamp and made the bass passive (V, V, T) and thought it sounded great!
I think one little-known feature of the Urge I is that in the passive mode (on the four position rotary switch), the bass control acts as a passive tone control.
Thinking about that, I wonder if one has the bass control set flat in the active mode and then switches to passive if the tone control is automatically set at half.

Interesting that only one position of the four position switch works. I'm guessing that's the passive position (since the mute position will never "work"). Either the battery is dead, which would cause two positions (active and active with mid-boost) not to work, the jack was mis-wired during the refinish or the preamp is dead.

(were these faux custom-shop instruments or something?)
