I'll go with the Mystic Blue or Charcoal Frost Metallic loaded with a set of Aero PJ's.

It's certainly helping businesses like Warmoth, Mighty Mite, and USACG that Fender has such a boring lineup of colors. If you don't like what they have, build your own. It can be a fun and educational project and the parts can be every bit as good as a stock, off the shelf Fender or better. Plus you'll have a bass that's your own. I think too many people on here are too focused on resale value rather than actually playing their instrument.

I don't know that the OP was complaining about the lack of some great innovation, just that the subtle product line massaging and new colors leave a lot to be desired.

If the biggest complaint is colours, I'd say they're doing okay!

As boring as it seems, if black, sunburst, white and natural didn't sell, they wouldn't be making them.

Those colors are fine. The new blue and red look like they belong on a Squier Affinity, though.

Fender can be traditional while also offering things like new tops and other features which will give their basses a slightly more modern flair. Heck, it's like Ford's current body design for their Mustangs. They went back to a more traditional body model that had some really nice modern cuts to them. Fender can definitely do the same.

I dont like many of Fenders innovative ideas. I do however love more color options, but have been let down by most of Fenders as of late. Fender does a lot of cheap finishes, with limited burst options. It would be neat to see them offer more bursts, like EBMM. I would really like to see them offer Nitro finishes on more basses. I think the market would buy them. Just dont offer it on a cheap bass to try to make more profit. Give me a US made Fender with a Nitro finish for the same price as a regular one and Ill buy that, and I NEVER buy New basses.

Spoke wheel adjusters would be a nice innovation, graphite rods in their vintage models would also be nice. But no...they're dumb.

Have to say an angry Nixon would be hawt. I wonder if they'd have to license the image, though.

My guess is that they operate with a very conservative business model. While adding wheel adjustment truss rods would be great for us, to change the design and therefore production of their instruments on that large of a scale would probably not even come close to making them as much money as it would cost them. This goes for most things.

I dont think people want really totally new models....but some more colors or woods...more options like a passive semi-deluxe...more vintage....just some messing around with what they already have.

They did. The Highway One P and J. They threw in graphite rods and a Badass bridge just for kicks. Buy one, they're excellent basses.

They are good basses but that wasn't a real nitro finish. That was a satin nitro finish. Nitro has to be gloss.

short of sticking a preamp in a design that looks exactly like a fender, I don't think any of these companies have done anything remotely innovative in years. They may build a good 'fender' bass, but innovation? I don't think so.
