This however made me confused. Seen LPB, CAR, NAT, OLY, SB, BLK, Sunburst but never this one:

From Ishibashi U-box (Not around anymore)

I think it was described as vintage white. No matching headstock but with FSR sticker on the back of the head.
Lovely anyway!

Oh it's not about issues ... no issues on my 3 bolt 76 either.

... But since they made both 4 and 3 bolts in 75 I just wondered why the 3 on the RI that's all.

That OLY White almost looks like an ebony fretboard.

Wow, that is a stunner, mrpackerguy. That's the first rosewood/blocks bass that I've actually dug the look of! If it plays and sounds anything like it looks....nice =D

Right now with roundwounds on it, it's a funk/slap machine. Once I get TI Flats on it, it should be tamed down a bit and function well in my classic rock cover band.

Early '74 was the last year for the 4-bolt neck as they were using up remaining 4-bolt necks, then mid '74 the 3-bolt necks which of course only come with bullet truss rods went into production.

'75 was all 3-bolts, so the RI is correct.

Only the P Bass was 4-bolt, they never used the 3-bolt on them.

Yes it is correct normally (but with Fender what is normal) aka: Never say never.

But if you go to http://www.gbase.com/default.aspx and do a search for a 1975 Jazz Bass you will find several ... 75 was a transition year you will find most with the 3 bolt, some with the 4 bolt and a bullet trussrod adjuster and a few standard 4 bolts.

Also I have 1st hand knowlege ... my 75 is a 4

... That's why I wonder why Fender chose to call it a 75 RI rather than a 73/74 4 bolt or a 3 bolt 76.

....and the pickup dates, pot codes, and neck stamp are what?

I don't doubt that there was a slight chance that a left over early 1974 neck could have been just sitting on the back of the shelf forgotten for a year, then all of a sudden found and bolted to a body and a 1975 neckplate number. Yes, we've seen that has happened before.
But 4 bolt necks had seized production well before 1975. So 4-bolts really wasn't a production techqnique in '75.

My tech went over it and just shook his head and said yeah that's what it is ... Stuff like this is not that unusual from Fender.

I was courious so I had Mike my tech check the date codes ... here ya go

The neck carries a code that indicates it was made the 43rd week of 1974, November if I'm not mistaken.
Pot codes show they were made the 51st week of 1974 by CTS, Dec if my math is right.
Neck plate indicates 1975

So if the pots were actually made in Dec likely it was not assembled and shipped until after the 1st of the year or 1975 ... hence a 75 model.

Here is just one more example from an Ebay auction ...

Gibson was not exempt from this kind of thing either for that matter, it's pretty well known that in 1968 Gibson shipped several Les Pauls out with late 50s bodies on them.

Nothing is written in stone with these guys, my 68 P-bass is nitro laquer and all the books say it's not.

It's no big deal ... this stuff just is what it is, must have been the FSR (Factory Special Run) of it's day!

... I don't have the only one like I said check G-base they are there too.
