I'd love to have one of those- even just for playing along to Beatles songs where they used one.

Sad, but that is an amazing deal. They're so difficult to come by generally.

They're not the actual vintage models; they are reissues.

The Fender VI Bass is one of the infamous instruments made popular in This is Spinal Tap. I just want to have it & do the scene from Spinal Tap between Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest) and Marty DiBergi (Rob Reiner). (The lines might not be exact. Just typed them from memory.)

Nigel: This one is very special. Look... still has the old tagger on, never even played it.
Marty: You've never played...?
Nigel: Don't touch it!
Marty: Well, I wasn't going to touch it. I was only pointing at it.
Nigel: Well, don't point, even. It can never be played. Ever.
Marty: Don't point, ok. Can I have a look at it?
Nigel: No, no that's it. You've seen enough of that one.

I really would like fender to do a squier CV one, OR a fender reissue that doesn't cost $3000

That's my favorite scene in the movie? So that was a bass? I thought it was just another one of his guitars.

yes a sonic blue/surf green one w/ RW fretboard and matching headstock would be terribly sexy!

The Warmoth stuff would be a good direction to go if you want a Jaguar shaped body. But USA Custom Guitars offers the correct body style, and the headstock would be closer to a real BassVI.

Well, even though it was used for tic-tac bass, I dunno if I'd call the Fender VI a bass. It goes down as low, but is really more of a baritone guitar.

Ian Faith: The Boston gig has been cancelled...
David St. Hubbins: What?
Ian Faith: Yeah. I wouldn't worry about it though, it's not a big college town.

It's a Fender VI Bass. (I've intentionally omitted wikipedia links because they are normally hit & miss.)

Hey, is a VI tuned in 4ths like a regular bass? As in E-A-D-G-C-F or is something else going on?

With a Warmoth nut and bridge you could turn any 30 inch scale bass into a VI, like maybe an SX.

In this link, they say it's tuned exactly 1 octave lower than guitar. I would take that to mean EADGBE. Though you could probably tune it EADGCF with no issues.

Nigel Tufnel: The sustain, listen to it.
Marty DiBergi: I don't hear anything.
Nigel Tufnel: Well you would though, if it were playing.

I didn't know that was a Bass VI in the movie they were talking about - I always thought it was a Strat or Jazzmaster w/ matching headstock...gotta watch it again I suppose

Is that it? The blue headstock one next to the 66 Jazz?
