Fender Zone Bass ?

Hey,
I was browsing my local CL this afternoon and noticed a "Fender Zone Bass", I have never even heard anything about these before, apparently they were made in mexico. Can someone fill me in on some more info about them please ?

Didn't the Zone replace the P Lyte?

I had a Zone a while back. Yes, they did replace the Lyte. Zone has a thicker neck (more P-like rather than J-like of the Lyte) Also has a different bridge, knobs and tuners than the Lyte did. Still had the same crappy active electronics as the Lyte. Supposed to be an upgrade but I thought the Lyte was a better bass. If you can get it for $350 or less, and like the neck, get it. You can always change out the pickups. I ended up wiring mine passive and putting in DiMarzios. Sounded MUCH better.
