Fenderbird Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a opportunity to buy a pretty nice Fenderbird bass pretty cheap. It is made of a all stock Epiphone Thunderbird bass body and a maple All Parts brand (licensed by Fender) neck. Has anyone else been intrigued by these basses, played or owned one? How could this compare to my all stock Fender Precision bass I currently use? I am only asking because I never played a Thunderbird before (Epiphone or Gibson) so I don't know what they sound like. I have always been intrigued by the Fenderbird bass not only because John Entwistle created the style, but just how cool they look. Any opinions?

I own and play one, but I really comment on a comparison with a P bass as I have never owned a P and upgraded the stock pickups with EMG's the day I got the body. As for as look and feel - I love it.

It worthy of noting that the neck dive can be RIDICULOUS though. If you can live with that, they are a lot of fun!

In addition to neck-dive, I've heard several people complain about reaching out to the 1st few frets.
I'm seriously GASing for an Epi T-bird Pro but I want to try one on a strap before I commit.

let me know when you can make a gig and i will bring my 2 jaebirds along... and yes they tend to neck dive some and are further out to the 1st fret. neck dive very manageble with a good strap and gibson SG type position. First fret is a matter of taste/familiarity. The fenderbirds are actually better than the std tbirds in both aspects.. If you have played fenders/clones exclusively it will be strange..... Jim

Black one is sporting 63 clone thunderbuckers and the white one 66 clone thunderbuckers...

Cool, I heard about the neck dive, which can me controlled by moving the strap lok behind the neck instead of on the horn. For around $240 does it seem like a good investment? Do the Epi Thunderbirds pickups and electronics sound good? I play rock music.

The headstock is cool on the white one!!! Looks kinda like a beak, fits the bass body very well!!!!! Now I am GASing for one of those (used the GAS term for the first time)!

I believe I have brought myself to hold off buying it. Thanks for the input guys. I'll just stick with my Fender P for now...just a GAS attack I guess

I like my Fenderbirds ...

Mine are all one of a kind frankensteined basses.

I fixed the neck dive with a straplok extender that I made myself.

Every.... Stinkin... Time...

Seriously, out of the bevvy of basses on TB, Ric5, your custom Tbirds are my fave!

On a related note that may or may not have been answered... will a Fender P bass neck fit an Epi Tbird body with no alterations needed?

Thanks alot dude ... your compliments are appreciated.

If you put a p-bass neck on an epiphone body you will need to remove some wood to make it fit.
