Amazing look at the people who make these instruments what they are! I see that feeling they have in the details of my Fodera every single time I pick her up...May you never lose your obsession, Please! Thank you all for who you are and for what you have achieved I congratulate and salute you!! There are certainly a few more Foderas in my future!!!

Peace,

T

Very interesting. Hearing Vincent Fodera talk about being inspired by watching his father was particularly interesting. It's always good to learn about what first inspired artists, especially when the inspiration comes from the family.

Classic. Perfect. Immortal.

You'll find that quote places other than talkbass, I guarantee it.
My fiance says things like that all the time. And she met Vinny and Joey a few months back when she was in NYC and she totally gets the "it's a compulsion" thing. Her current show (shameless plug - final week):

Shoshana Wayne Gallery - Current Exhibitions: Shirley Tse - Vital Organs & Other Stories

(and yes, those are bass strings in one of the pieces)

Actually that was Anthony adjusting a customer's bridge. We delivered a Presentation the week that they were shooting and AJ was there doing final setup...

I think that's a really cool thing. Anthony doing the setup on a customer's presentation. I read a great article titled ' Contrabass Conception ' sometime back. Great article. Anthony mentioned it took him a long time to learn how to setup his bass properly. That was a real eye-opener for me.

Personally, and correct me if I am wrong here Jason, but I have heard that Anthony plays every single ' true ' Presentation model before it ships out to the customer. By ' true ' presentation, I mean a bass that has EXACTLY the same specs on # 10 i.e. one pickup, 36" scale, no electronics, etc. I think that's taking the term ' Signature bass ' to a whole new level. It's unbelievable for me to think that a man like Anthony Jackson would actually take time out of his busy schedule to play and check my instrument if I ordered a Presentation. That's unheard of. I think it's one of things that make Fodera so special.

Aother question for Jason and I'm sorry if this has been answered before, what is the status on # 12 ?

And one of the things that makes Anthony so special - compulsive pursuit of perfection.

We make every human effort possible to have AJ play and be involved with the final set-up of every Presentation (which by definition has only his specs). That said, if AJ is going to be out on the road for a long time and it would impact a delivery date to a customer by more than 2-3 weeks, we give the customer the option of waiting for AJ's return or having the instrument shipped without AJ's involvement.

And just to proactively answer...AJ's compensation for doing this = $0. Nothing. He is a true artist and wants every Presentation to be all that it can be for reasons that run completely counter to what many might expect in our present day rather cynical, commercial world...

As for #12, we are in the process of testing out some new ideas and features on a customer's bass (with his knowledge, of course) that is due to be complete in April. Once that instrument is finished and AJ gets a chance to play it and weight the merits of some of the new designs we will then begin #12 in earnest. I am pretty sure that #12 will be completed this year, however, I have no idea when...

Cheers,

J

Maybe I've been lucky with who I've met, but it seems that a higher percentage of bass players have this attitude in life. I suppose it goes along with the nature of the instrument - support and bridging (rhythm and harmony). It would be an interesting study to try and determine if that is nature or nurture...I'm willing to bet it is a little from column A, a little from column B.
