I did noticed that. I guess not much love for stealthy Fodera as compared to the exotic ones. But the price is pretty good.

Exactly! Funny but his old signature bass has that "nasal" sound..not with this one.

Ah, missed that one! However, it's Stern + Fodera bassist season at 55 - Richard Bona next week, Janek Gwizdala the week after. Mon/Wed 10PM gigs for both.

(whoa...and Oz Noy on 2/26 with John Patitucci and Jeff Tain Watts! 55 is THE place.)

Inching closer to my Emporer 5 Standard...

That one used to or still does belong to a guy who was a member on Talkbass. Cool guy and a good player with a very nice bass collection. I think that in the end he decided he preferred the Ken Smith tone which would explain why he sold/is selling this bass. Can't remember the guy's username here though - it's been about 5 years since I last remember him posting. I do remember him telling me that that bass does have a fancy top under that black paint, so if you like the bass but not the finish, you could always strip it and go with the natural wood look.

By the way, what is the story with the 'Edwards model' Fodera? Who was Mr. Edwards, who did he play with? Why was the model discontinued? I really like the body shape of the Edwards models.

Yeah that's Brad's old bass. He's a cool cat and definitely a good player. I can tell you've been around the block when you remember Brad.

That bass was owned by a member here (as people mentioned), and I believe he said that he would not ever sell it (I think I asked). Then magically it ended up on eBay years later by someone who cannot spell or spellcheck to save their life, which is a warning sign for me. Same with the horrible pictures- freaks me out.

It's quite old- late 90's, IIRC. Jason will know. Something about the horrible presentation on eBay and the whole situation makes me think scam, even if it isn't. Cool bass with unusual body, though.

This is probably a dumb question but I'm trying to change the battery in my emperor II elite, I've taken the screws out but the cover is so snug I can't get it off. I don't want to pry it out with a screwdriver and risk damaging the wood. Any hints?

I use a small screw driver and CAREFULLY push the cover out through the input jack.... that way you won't risk damaging wood by prying it out from the back.

I've used little suction cups when I've encountered this in the past.

Paper clip (or a 90-degree awl, but not everyone has one handy) in the middle of one of the screw holes. Don't pry at the edge of the cover.

Thanks for posting this as I am in NYC from Mar 9-15 and I would love to see Tom, Goines, Bona, etc in the flesh. Amazing how many incredible players play the 55 Bar.

I will add a night at 55 Bar to my visit to Fodera, Rangers and Devils hockey games.... Gonna be a busy March Break!

Any other NYC live music ideas?

I know that the instrument is real, the only thing that I want to check with Joey about is the black finish. Back to you guys later this morning.

Regards,

J

Sure, all you have to do is widen the nut slots and change the strings. Once you do that, however, going back to E-C would require a new nut.

Also, a 33" scale B is a highly personal taste. Some people are fine with them and others feel that they are too "floppy."
