I know that no one is going to care, but I just wanted to tell SOMEBODY that I'm thrilled to know that my 5 string MG shape Imperial Elite has started construction. Jason confirmed for me that the neck has been started, and I'm hoping to see a completed bass in late April , having placed my order in December 2011.
It seems time has gone by quickly since placing the order, and I've got enough going on in my life that waiting for the next 2 1/2 months to pass by shouldn't be TOO big of a deal, but we all know (at least those who have ordered a Fodera) how it starts to feel, the closer to completion it gets. I'm sure many of you have had to deal with that many more times than me...this is going to be only my second custom Fodera, and the first one, a Yin Yang Deluxe, didn't really even count, since I bought the bass from a dealer with only 6 weeks left to finish the bass from an order placed by the dealer a few years previously. Who else has a custom scheduled to complete in mid-late April, this year???

I think you were right the first time All I can say is thank G*d for VERY hefty tax refunds!!!! Mine will cover my bass, plus a little extra. If I could get away without telling the wife, I'd use the excess for a Monique

However, February outlay for me will approach Nostatic-eque proportions - I'm also picking up a double bass and bow (that will set me back Emporer Elite 5 with presentation grade top dollars ) The standards certainly are a gateway drug - for me, it just happened to be a gateway to greater musical exploration (and the appreciation for what a fine instrument means to your playing).
Happy build waits to all...

My ES5 Lefty will be waiting for me to pick it up on Thursday from Fodera (Valentine's day ). I am travelling accross the world (Literally a 16 hour direct flight) on Wednesday to NYC to pick up the Fodera and hang out with the Fodera gang, as one of the main reasons for my visit. Just a few more days left, but the anxiousness is killer!!!!!

No, we have never done an Ash FB. Methinks that the wood is too porous and soft to make a great FB...but I will ask Vin the question on Monday as well.
As for Tulipwood, it behaves very similarly to Brazilian RW structurally, but sounds like a hypothetical cross of Brazilian and Maple. We have built two instruments with Tulipwood FB's since I have been here...

jason, care to waste some more of your precious time? |

Glue up of my personal 30th Anniversary bass should start next week. The neck's been ready for awhile. We are timing mine to be date stamped on the 14th of March -- Fodera's actual 30th Anniversary date -- which means that she should be complete and playable by roughly the first week of April +/-. Funny, I STILL get excited when I have an instrument in process and this is my 6th personal custom build!!
Cheers,

Jason - Did he want a backup?

I never got around to tuning it b to g, but I did a quick test of the open b string without cutting the nut.
The comparison between the following two basses yielded similar tone. The 34" scale was a tad deeper and more focused.
The first test was with 11.5lb imperial elite with a 34" scale, exposed core ss string 0.130.
The second test was using the 10lb mgs with an old ss string I had lying around, tapered core 0.128.

A few tunes are with a Rob Allen, otherwise all are Fodera (Yin Yang Deluxe, Matt Garrison Std).
