They really are a nice combination. It's going to be intersting exploring what the Emporer can do. I've been deep in the pure single coil Jazz world with the NYC for the last nine months.

I pick up my upright next week...so you should see a video up on John P's Artistworks site at some point in the coming months.

I know. Had to give you a hard time, though. What pups are on your yyd, I forget?

EMG PJ. The 5s will have dual coils. I've warmed to them (DCs on the MGS) but I'm still a PJ guy at heart.

Funny, I thought about this 11+ pounder and went and weighed mine.

My E5S FEELS heavy, so I figured I could turn my back pain (and suffering) into some substantial compensation when I meet the Fodera gang in a couple of weeks (a sticker, maybe?).

In any case, I weighed my E5S and it is right around 9.5lbs. Not heavy at all. Just SOLID if that makes any sense.

These E5S basses have a fairly big body and a wide-ish neck (perfect as I NEED 19mm), but the ergonomics and playability are just incredible.

y'all.

that 12-string fodera on ebay is now going for $8,400.

it really bums me out that it's a 36-inch scale, which is a total deal-breaker for me.

if any of you guys have even considered this and are into 36-inch 6-string basses, the price just got stupid.

You think it'll be 'going'?
I personally like 36 inch necks but dislike anything more that 5 strings.
Actually, I'm quite into 4 at this moment.

I like a heavy bass and that E5S is a great deal, but I don't need a second.

Jason, make a 12 lb 6 string version by accident and I'm in

no idea. if it were a 34-inch scale, i'd be thinking *very* seriously about how to come up with the scratch for it. it's not really my preferred specs, but it would also be quite a bit cheaper than a new one would be and, therefore, somewhat more attainable.

i few guys played my 12 at namm, they were intrigued. if they were into 36-inch scales, this could be their deal. (if you're lurking, wayne? your friend michael w?)

it kinda kills me that it's a 36, but maybe it's for the best ;-)

Just buy it and send it to Brooklyn so they can whack 2" off the neck

+1!

Jason, stick a 5th string on a Monarch Standard by accident and give me a call!

i can tell you it is *way* cheaper than what jason told me it would cost me to have done. worth it, imho.

We'll do it for a pretty nominal upcharge...

The deal with the Standards is that we will do options that we would otherwise allow you to add AFTER the bass was purchased anyway. The catch (and its a small one) is that any added option is an upcharge.

So, you essentially are buying the Standard as is and then paying as extra to modify it for you...

Come to think of it, the Lefty Emperor has EVERY available modification we would allow on a "Standard." And, in case you are wondering, we are only offering the M4S and the E5S as Lefties...NOT the MGS or the YYS.

Maybe an odd question, but here goes...

Has anyone here ordered a custom Fodera with just the 'base' (i.e. no upcharge) top and fretboard? I just got an e-mail back from Jason, and the base woods are pretty nice... Per Jason...

Included in the base price is a non-solid top in either 5A Curly Walnut or Flame Maple.
In terms of FB material, your choice of Pau Ferro, Indian Rosewood, Ebony, or Macasar Ebony.

So, has anyone gone this route?

i would, as i don't love the fancy/burl stuff. my tops are maple, ebony and zebra.
