Usually looks pretty bad, much worse than a finish crack in a regularly finished instrument. Nice looking without flaws, though. The rest of the bass is typical MIJ quality: pretty good.

Basically it's a '62 P with this faux finish.
It was my first Fender. I'm currently going to refinish it.
Here it is (before): |

I never dug these things. A really gaudy attempt at dressing mutton as lamb. Sort of the 79Cutlass Supreme on big rims mentality. You are paying slightly more for an instrument with a bit of photocopied wood stuck on it that is then half obscured by some eye-jarring burst.
Those J and P basses are cool because they have that no-nonsense vibe with the Dupont colours etc... not these fancy deals.

The natural finish fotoflame bodies are much more subdued. |

Big air bubble under the "foto" on the back of the headstock as well. That being said, it played and sounded fine. Quote:

I got it for dirt cheap because no one would buy it. Stripped it down and gave it a nice refinish. I ended up with a nice MIJ Fender P for under $250.

Its a transparent film that's applied between wood and finish, its done well and looks pretty realistic and three dimensional.

| | | I have a MIM Jazz from 2004 or 05 that I bought of ebay. It has a flamed top. Would this be a photo finish? No biggie if it is, I just cant see them putting a flamed top on an MIM.
Anyway, here's a pic:

BnB | Nope. Too late to be a fotoflame. They were gone by about 1998 or so.
