MIK Jazz Bass routed for 2 long J pickups, extra routing in rear for future expansion in control area
Warmoth wenge/wenge Jazz neck, no fingerboard dots
Hipshot 3/8 Ultralights
Uncured bone nut
MEC active pickups
Passive Vol/Bal/Tone 25k pots
Squier bridge with saddles from a Fender American Deluxe Bass
Original knobs drilled out for larger shafts
May replace bridge plate and install string ferrules. May install a piezo system. May install a MIDI pickup. I bought a used Kahler tremolo but the saddles aren't reversed so it would hang over the rear of the bass, so that idea was a wash. Prolly going to get a 3/8 Hipshot D-tuner. Considering a MM pickup between the MECs, may install a separate control set for it with an separate output. Thinking of getting the TX Rollergirls "Texecutie" image printed onto the pickguard (thus naming the bass as well). I had a decal made "Fender Frankenbass" but it's not really a Fender (tho it does have Fender and Fender licensed parts). Now I'm thinking of getting a Franken Jazz Bass or Squier Frankenbass decal made (not much of the original Squire is left either). It still has a little more work to go before I have it professionally setup, I'm even considering a Plek treatment. Thinking of having the headstock painted to match the body. |

This thing sounds HUGE !!! | I realize it's an old post, but what does this tone cap do? Like, what's the appeal?

I know the thread is "Frankenstein basses", but what kind of router did you use - the Wolfman?

" The Dano Dano Never Made" using RI Dano components, a Convertible Guitar body wtih a Longhorn neck and bridge, Labella nylon tapes, no controls. I glued 3 small wood blocks to take the mounting screws for the Longhorn Pro bridge:

(passive) Recently replaced the neck CIJ.(57 reissue) Also, if you look close the saddles are a bit crooked. One of the stock saddles threads stripped. So I had to swipe these off an old 'piece o crap' bass I had from my younger days. So they dont fit exactly right. But it still sounds pretty good so I never bothered to fix them. Here are some before and after shots.
Mexican body
Japanese neck
British strings (Rotosounds)
But at least its got an American flag on it!!!

Its a Warmoth mahogany SG body, maple Dolan neck with black blocks, Fralin bassbuckers, RS Electronics vintage wiring kit (for jazz bass), Schaller bridge, and Hipshot tuners.
I actually got the body raw and finished it myself.

here's mine:
neck came from Rondo for about $45, body was one of those $50 chinese basses from ebay. had the dimarzios, ashtray (missing from pic), and tugbar to put on. wasnt sure if a gold PG would fit or if id even like it, so i made one with cardboard and krylon. i dig it. it thumps and zings with the best of 'em! |

routed with this med-evil powerdrill asp, the only 5 bucks I spent on this project. |

I have a cheap Squire Affinity P bass & the body is some sort of goo that was poured in a mold .... but it doesn't look like that! |

I finished my Frankenprecision yesterday.
1985 Tokai Precision from alder, with Squier VM Jaguar neck and Seymour Duncan pickups. Vintage-style bridge and tuners and vintage perloid pickguard.
It's got master volume, bridge volume and master tone.
Today i'll play it first time in my band.

- Allparts neck, finished in Reranch clear gloss nitro.
- CTS pots.
- Custom rosewood tugbar found on eBay.
- Fender Highway One body, wet sanded and polished to a gloss.
- Fender vintage reverse-wound tuning machines.
- Fender Custom Shop '60s pickups.
- Various other Fender hardware, including a 3-ply parchment pickguard.
Rather than modding an existing bass, the components for this one were purchased separately. |
