I hope you are suggesting lemon oil for the rosewood board.

Luthiers tell me lemon oil turns maple boards green.

I have heard really good things about Birchwood Casey's Tru Oil for Rosewood boards. Never tried it myself though.

If I built a bass like that, I think I'd try an ABM bridge like my Pedulla has, as I really like the roller saddles and I also like the side to side adjustment (string spacing) available with those.
Thanks it was solid off white but Isanded it off & redid it antique pickling. I agree re: bridge cover.
I like the old fashioned tele bass bridges + needed through body strings so I went w this one.

The American Deluxe bridges also offer some side to side adjustments and string through! I have a tendency of pulling the G string off(no jokes please) the fingerboard which is why I'll never own a MusicMan or similar bass with close to edge G strings.

Burnt linseed oil is what my luthier has me put on my ebony fingerboards. Not sure what it would do to maple though.

Burnt or boiled? I have boiled.
It will deepen color slightly on lighter woods.

Burnt. It goes on ebony and a little dab will do you. It is dark if you spill it on you.

Been playing a fretted Carvin LB70P since 2004. Finally ordered my first fretless. I'm stoked!

LB70PF (p = piezo in the bridge; f = fretless)

For those that don't know this model is a 4 string with 24 frets if they were there, neck through, string through, active/passive with 2 J-style pu's (neck and bridge positions) with piezos in the saddles, and sweeps for all 3 of those pu's. Low, mid/mid sweep and high eq.
  • 3 piece body - walnut, maple laminate layer, figured claro walnut top
  • 5 piece neck - walnut with 2 maple stripes
  • No-show-neck (neck through only visible from the back)
  • Birdseye maple board with "Hard As Nails" epoxy coating
  • Claro headstock matches top
  • No lines, no dots
  • Rounded body sides
  • Abalone logo

Whatchu all think? Can't wait til it gets here.

Completion date 9/10. This coming week is 4 of 8 estimated for the build. Original estimate was 10 weeks.

Nice, always wanted to try a fretless Carvin. It sounds very customized too.

Hey guys, I got a question. I'm debating putting a detuner on my fretless, which I will use a lot for jazz. Is it common for a bassist to go into drop tunings for jazz? I know a lot of horns are tuned to Eb so it makes sense.

I've been debating something like this off and on for a while. Though I wanna bring my B to A. If you're playing a lot of jazz with a lot of horns it might be worthwhile to just drop all the strings a half step.

I'm Fretless Club #195, haven't posted in a long time, in fact I've gone over to the other side (double bass TB). This is the last bass I made. Pearwood top, cherry back, red cedar core, quatersawn maple neck (set) dymondwood fb, Nordstrand Big Split, Hipshot Ultralight tuners w/Hipshot/Graphtech piezo bridge, custom made Yew wood knobs. TI Jazz Flats. Gathering dust while I learn DB
