AFAIK the pup and pre are EMG clones so if you've ever played a bass with them you'll know what to expect.. I'm probably going to go ahead and replace them with actual EMGs though. Quote:

Bass was virtually unplayable when I got it out of the case (I did let it acclimate for about 8 hours). Too much relief and the saddles were set so high there was no discernible "mwaahh" at all!
First I replaced the strings with a set of Carvin nickels, gave the neck a 1/4 turn and lowered the saddles. That helped but I'm gonna have to crank on the truss rod some more. Still too much relief. Pups need to be lowered too.
Anyway, while I'm waiting for the neck tweak to set, here are a couple of pics. |

Still trying to get this bass dialed it. Man, I've never had to work so hard and getting a bass set up for my playing style! It's getting there though! And when it does get there it's gonna be a SWEET player! |

The 5 string on the left is a Gecko that I but together about 8 years ago (polyester coated ebony fingerboard) and the 6 string on the right is a Roscoe 3006 (birds eye maple Diamondwood fingerboard). |

When I've got another Squier I'll have an answer. I would never rip the frets out of a real one... trade necks, maybe.
