Think the chickens are easy to grab and adjust.
Have purple ones on the SB-1.
Think I bought them at Antique Electronics in Arizona.

Very classy with the tinted maple board.

| | | | Ha! Here's a chance for me to tell a story, even though I don't have any pictures at the moment. In the nineties, I was at work as a cook, and a co-worker came to me and asked me if I wanted to buy a bass that his friend was selling for $60. I told him I did, and then asked what it was. He said he didn't know, and his friend didn't know anything about basses, but it was a "G&L" or something.
So, I was pretty excited. What came to me, for $60, was an eighties model G&L 1000. It was not beautiful, pretty scuffed up, but still a great instrument. I took her home and have had her ever since.
So, at the time I hadn't met the guy who sold me the bass. A couple of years later I did finally meet him, he came to a party I had at my house and whatnot. He was trying to learn guitar so I took him to get some strings and tried to help him out.
Some time after that, I was a bartender, and the guy who sold me the bass (his name is Joe) was in the bar with another character, and they were drunk, and out of line, and I had to ask them both to leave. It was nothing personal on my part, they were wasted and out of order so I had to get them out same as anybody.
Joe freaked out, and went to my house, and found the door unlocked and went in and took the bass he had sold me years earlier. But I didn't know this, because when I woke up the bass was leaning up against a tree in my front yard.
In the full summer sun, it was around noon when I discovered it. I asked my roommate why he'd put it out there, and he said he'd never do something like that. There was a person working on the rented house, and I asked that guy if he had put it out there, and he said he didn't do it, and wondered why it was out there when he arrived.
The bass was in bad shape, the rosewood board in the sun had I guess been contracting in the heat, the neck was bowed, and the wood was splitting at the bridge and the headstock from all the pressure.
So I de-tuned the strings, and wondered what the hell was going on. At some point I figured out what had happened, and I confronted Joe at the gym about it. He apologized and admitted what he'd done. I told him the apology was one thing, and I'd accept that, but that he was gonna be liable for whatever repairs were necessary to make this bass play right again. He agreed.
The repairs came to about $200, and he in fact paid up. This is still no beautiful looking bass, but it plays great and sounds great, and gave me a real appreciation for G&L basses. More to the point, it has a round 7.25" radius, which it turns out I like as much on basses as I do on electric guitars. Just a great instrument.
At this point I've had it for around fifteen years, and am thinking about finally getting it re-finished. Maybe some kind of blue.
I'll try to remember putting up some pictures at some point. |

Too cool. Have fun.
Click the Customize button under your favorite model bass to get started.

An unlined fretless Birdseye Maple fingerboard would be cool!!!
