G&L Gun Oil tint question

Question about G&L's hand-rubbed gun-oil tint option on necks...

Do they feel "sticky" and glossy like an old poly neck? Or are they more like a satin or oil finish?

I generally prefer satin necks... hate the nasty thick gloss. I need my necks to feel fast and smooth, but NOT like bare wood.

Thoughts?

They're thick poly gloss.

Anyone know if G&L uses the same neck finish as are on USA Peavey Millenniums? Because I looove USA Peavey Millennium necks.

The two that I've had were very nice, not sticky. But it's nothing like a typical oil finish like EBMM or a US Masters. My impression was the GNT was not quite as glossy or as thick as a typical "gloss" finished neck.

To be honest I don't know how G&L applies that finish, but if you told me it's a blend of satin and gloss I could believe it.

That said, if you have sticky hands like a tree frog, you might want to first check one out in person.

I think "gun oil" just describes the color but it's actually gloss... see here:

...and I totally have sticky hands like a tree frog

As far as I know G&L doesn't have a "hand rubbed gun oil finish" in their options. What they do have are different neck tint options.

What is referred to as "Gun Oil Finish" is actually "Vintage Tint Gloss" and it is a colored polyurethane gloss finish.

Ya beat me to it Tim!

I don't have the tree frog hands problem but if you want the color there's now a "vintage tint satin" option which should be a lot less sticky than the gloss.

Yep. This is how mine is. It's a tint, and the actual finish is gloss.

I usually hate gloss finish, but this is pretty nice.

ok, so my 2011 sb-2 is clear satin, and the 83 l2k is vintage tint gloss

the vintage tint gloss is like what was on my gibson grabber and you need to polish it sometimes or it will get pretty sticky, not as much nowadays though, cause people don't smoke in clubs or bars anymore

I thought G&L stopped offering the Gun Oil Tint (G.O.T) a few years ago?

I have (2) basses that have it, a SB-2 fretless and a ASAT.
I enquired to G&L about buying a matching fretted neck for the SB-2 and they told me they no longer offered the GOT.

At least that is what I was told

It has that orange'e cheeto's look to it.
