| | Fan of the New Orleans Saints | | | | | G&L JB (Jazz Bass) video review and demo! (Ed Friedland) As some of you know and many of you don't, I have a G&L Jb and I love this bass. I really don't see a lot of people playing them, but found a couple of demos on youtube I thought I'd share to show you how great these instruments truly are.
The first video is from tb member and bass legend Ed Friedland. Here, he's reviewing the G&L Jb Rustic Series
Next is Ed from Bass Central talking about the G&L Jb
Again, I love my G&L Jb. I've owned dozens of Fenders and there were a couple of special ones, but nothing compares to my G&L. I've never owned a Sadowsky, or Alleva Coppella, but this is a truly special J bass!

But if I do go for one more the JB is at the top of the list!
Plus it will fit in nicely with my other G&L's

Edit: They've discontinued (maybe never made?) the Tribute JB. They still offer the USA JB.

I wanted something to always remember her with and I figured a bass was a great way to do it.
It doesn't get played much anymore but I never put it away, it always sits on a stand somewhere in my house.
Every once in a while I have some work done on it, it has had the pickups changed out in it three times now.......and it may be on its way for a fourth if I can ever figure out what I really want in it!
Still plays great and there isn't a scratch on it!

Meanwhile, I love my pair of JB2's, but am going to be experimenting with a pickup change on the sunburst workhorse, which has been my veritable wife for the past 18 months. I like to think of the pickup change as being equivalent to giving wifey a b**b job for her 35th or 40th B-day. If the Quarter Pounders are to my liking, I will consider Nordy 'buckers for the honey QMT, which is used more selectively (and plays even better than the sunburst; it's a satin neck, and the 'burst is gloss gun-oil-tint).

Fast forward to now and it's all I seem to like!

Fast forward to now and it's all I seem to like! | Me, too... I thought Fenders looked cheap and common. And of course, I guess that plain look wasn't in "persona" with my immature teenage mindset for being in a band (lookit meee, lookit meee!!!) so I shied away from them.
Then I grew up. |

Then I grew up. | +1. My first quality bass was a Gibson Ripper, which I bought in '73. I did NOT want to play a Fender like everybody else. I love my JB-2 but I'm really GASsing for a Fender jazz too.

Indeed, most JB's I've seen on line are your basic sunburst/tort/rosewood.
I ordered my JB locally through Bass Specialties (bassspecialties.com), which sells on line (or by phone) and has a couple of sweet JB's in stock in cool colors: http://bassspecialties.com/basses_gl.html
Or, just hit G&L's dealer list on its site, and start calling those in your area. Who knows what's lurking out there, and of course they can order anything for you.
