G&L L-2500 String Spacing I just spoke to a G&L dealer in Massachusetts about the L-2500. He said the string spacing at the bridge is tighter than a Music Man StingRay 5. Is this true? |
Don't know what the MM is but the G & L is 17mm. |
MM SR5 should be 17.5mm. |
Yeah, G&L is 17mm. perfect. |

Oooo that is tight. I sold a 90's Carvin B5 because of narrow spacing and I've been looking a '97 l2500 4&1 headstock. Would one from this era be that narrow? Dont know what the Carvin's spacing was but it was too narrow for me to play comfortably. |

I have both the L2500 and SR5 and mine feel very close. The 0.5mm is barely noticeable. I also have a Fender Jazz V at 18.25mm, two 5's at 19mm, and one 6 at 19mm. And, of course, several 4's... I have no problem playing any, but the G&L is certainly narrow. The Carvin B5 was right about 17mm, too. |

The stringspacing is 17,5 mm on both basses, but the fretboard radius and neck thickness is different. The G&L 2500 feels bigger for me. I like both, but the Stingray 5 is my main gigging bass. |

68/4 = 17 The radius of the SR5 is 11", radius of the L2500 is 12". Nuts are both 1.75" (~44mm). My L2500's heel is actually 1/16" (~1.5mm) narrower than my SR5's. Oddly enough, my fretless L2500 has a VERY thin neck. Like Geddy Lee Jazz Bass thin. My fretless SR5 feels bigger, but it's VERY comfy, too. I also had a fretted L2500 and SR5 and the opposite was true on the neck thickness. Sold both of those, but I use both fretlesses now. |
I looked at the musicman homepage and found the official specs for stringspacing for the stingray 5. It is 11/16 (17,46 mm). http://www.music-man.com/faq/music-m...an-basses.html This is a very interesting comparison, based on the fact that the main facts are about the same, but the feel is vastly different. Only reduced to the feel, I would say, the Stingray 5 neck feels more like a Jazz Bass neck and the L-2500 neck more like a P-Bass neck. |
Stingray 5 is 17.5 mm. G&L Tribute L2500 is 17 mm. |
