Final outcome is always dependent on the strings you choose. My L-2500 sounded great with a 130.....

Mine was fantastic with EB Slinky's. L-2500's can be pretty heavy. I know all basses can But I played quite a few that were

My old L2500 had an awesome B. I used to string it with a DR .125.

I personally found the L2500's B string lacking. I like the M2500's, and my L1505 has a killer B string.

I have an L2500 with an amazing B string. My 2nd bass ever, and it is still one of the best B strings I've ever had.

I love Yamaha, and even if I always encountered issues on BB series, B string was ok.

Yet, G&L is way better...
I discovered them relatively recently: B string very present and effective, and I play a full step downtuned, so you guess.

Cheers,
Wallace

Yes, way better. I've got three L2500s: two USA and a Tribby. All have great B strings. Note I demand that all my basses have B strings that give a fretted E pretty much indistinguishable from the open E on the next string. They all do this quite nicely.

The G&L Bs are much better than my Fender Deluxe V B but are worse than the "to die for" B on my Modulus, but it's a carbon neck and 35" scale.

I have owned 2 2500's. They are great sounding basses if you can get used to the 17mm string spacing.. I never could...

Nah. The overall feel of the USA model is a little nicer, but not by much. Unless you have cash to burn (or need a fretless) you should be just fine with a Tribute.
