| | | | I definitely believe it's full scale.
Gene's a big dude, plus armor...that's a little dude IMO, comparing his bass to the SVT.
BUT, what do you like best? You say you want to play it in other bands so if you prefer full scale, make it full scale...if you prefer short scale, then do that. I think you can pull it off visually/proportion-wise either way to work for your tribute band...
FWIW, if I built one, I would build it full scale, but I'm close to Gene size and would feel stupid playing a short scale.

besides, I've never owned anything short scale.
I'm not exactly Angus Young either, in size.
Just want to make sure I'm at least doing it justice.
The pickup has me thinking...
Will foregoing the mudbucker cheapen the cool factor of this build?

That's it with what appears to be a P pickup and an acoustic bridge.
If you go to the page here: http://www.backstagegallery.com/phot...-0563-016.html
you should be able to get a full screen view and see it better.
Once upon a time, Gene was a modder (and friends with DiMarzio), and that bass changed alot through the years, so no, I don't think not having a mudbucker is a big deal. You can always add it later if you want and do a new pickguard, which is what he did.

Hell, he may like having that much booty in the bridge.

I build and repair guitars for a living. So as to perform my craft one of the essentials is a good solid sturdy work bench, where the instrument can by worked on in stable conditions and tools needed can be easy to reach without them being in the way.
I would never even consider routing a guitar while sitting in a lotus position with the guitar resting on my lap, it simply doesn't make sense.
But this guy however has a very different opinion... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-pys...feature=relmfu
I sat through that clip Grinding my teeth and had to look away when he showed the rout for the pickup selector...
As for how this relates to gene, well he's working on a Cort Gene Simmons Axe guitar.

He states at one time that the screws of the selector switch don't seem to fit so he enlarges the holes but the reason they didn't fit was not of the holes being too small but because of them being offset, even from this clip I could tell that they were NOT inline with the slot.
I'm fearful with people watching him work going "He did a good job" and trying it themselves, how many instruments will get messed up by people working on them sitting in a lotus position with the instrument on their lap and a router in their hands?
Proper lighting and a solid sturdy bench will make working conditions much easier.

The body is more symmetrical like a Melody Maker than an EB0.

| | Cort bassist by obligation | | Join Date: Mar 2003 Location: South Florida | | | Well, I finally figured out what I'm going to do regarding this build.
I was thinking about getting a 24 fret short scale Danelctro neck and modding it to make it a LoBue. I was going to also settle and make it bolt-on copy of the LoBue with mudbucker and all.
However, I'm making this for me. Also, I'd like to present this to Gene when completed. Going with a full scale, neck thru neck may get his attention.
To make it unique, I will go with EMG P & 35DC pickups.
To give it a nod to the original, I will use speed knobs. I'd like to make that illusive 3rd knob a blend rather than using the typical switch he currently uses on his Corts.
This should be a cool build.
