(Washburn guitar $5,000, Ephiphone les paul $5,000) | Wow. I'm not a Communist, but ... wow. I read that Gene was worth $300 million in 2010 and Paul something like $225 mil. I guess milking it for all it's worth is how they got there, why stop now? I won't make any Jewish jokes - both are members of the tribe (I am, too, so I'm allowed). :p
I was a huge Kiss fan as a kid and learned guitar listening to Ace Frehley. At 16yo I could play every part of every song on the first five studio albums. KISS is the reason I was a Gibson man (Les Pauls, Flying Vs, and Explorers) for so many years. Kinda outgrew them in my teens and moved on to Nugent, Skynyrd, Aerosmith, but still respect the songwriting and musical hooks. And they were all decent players, too. I saw a video from the early 70s where Ace was tapping a la EVH, way before VH I was recorded. And have seen vids of Paul getting his Stevie Ray Vaughn on, he's a very good guitarist. And playing bass for a short stint in the mid-2000s we covered Rock and Roll All Nite and Hotter Than Hell, and I could appreciate Gene as a decent rock bassist, too. Dunno how he played some of those riffs while singing. I wasn't able to. :D
Love 'em or hate 'em, one must admit they were all pretty good musicians in a Rock context and great songwriters and showmen. My hat's off to them.
Loved the first thread, lots of killer photos I'd never seen before. |
