get the Fender mim?

Hi - I play some classic rock, some folk rock and blues. 3 piece, no drummer. I have a Jack Casidy and a Schecter Diamond. I read over and over that a P bass is great to have. I always hear about Fender. Someone local is selling a MIM Fender P bass, about 7 years old, good condition for $100. Think I should go for it?

Give it a try! If it plays and sounds good to you then 100 bucks is a great deal! Seriously that's pretty damn cheap for a MIM Fender P in good condition...I suggest you see and play it first! I don't think you can even get a MIM p-bass neck for 100 bucks! Good luck!

It could actually be both MIM and Squier. In any case, still a good deal.

If it's a Fender and not a Squier, they typically sell for about $250-$350 used. Buy it.

Do it!

And do it now!

It's the price of the poorest-among-the-poor Fender knockoffs

So it's a steal for a MIM Precision...

Cheers,
Wallace

Thanks for the input. Turned out to be squier, but then, another post came up and this one really is MIM fender P bass. He wanted $225, and I offered $175 and got it! Came with a small practice amp, new set of strings. They had upgraded the bridge to a Badass. The bass had not been cared for. Some scratches and dings (on the lower side) and the action was pretty high. I did my own truss adjustment - first time ever and now it feels pretty good. My first Fender and I have been around for a long time.

Think of it this way, you spent $75 for the bridge and a $100 for the bass.

Good Score

I would love a JC in my stable. Having said that, a P bass IS always a good bass to have.

Wow, strong work!! That is a score and a half. Play it in good health. Curious re: your screen name...are you by any chance a southpaw? That's a right-handed bass. Throws left, bats right??

I'd throw on a black guard and chrome knobs. Sweet buy.

Yep - that's me. I asked by brother (when I was 4 or so) to show me how to bat. He is righty so that is how he showed me. When it came time to play music, all the guitar players around where righty, so that is what I learned.

At $175 for a nice bass with the amp, upgraded BA bridge and strings that was a killer score! If you are happy with it then I would say you did very well.
