Gibson Midtown Bass (34" scale hollowbody)... Anyone order one yet?

So this bass was announced a few weeks back....

http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Elec...dard-Bass.aspx

I have always wanted a vintage EB-2 but they are crazy expensive. This new Gibson just came out and I placed my order right away. Should be here in a couple of weeks. I bought the vintage sunburst and price was just under $1200USD

Here is the weird thing..... I can't see any US retailers offering this for sale anywhere! Not Amazon, not Sweetwater, GC..... Nobody.

I live in Canada and the retailer where I buy most of my stuff is the Canadian disty for Gibson, but still..... Why isn't this bass available anywhere but in Canada and parts of Europe?

Has anyone else ordered one of these cool basses?

Here is the Canadian link for reference....

American music supply has them too. I was sorely tempted, but I'd really want to play one first before I bought and that doesn't look like it's going to happen any time soon. GC doesn't seem to carry most of these new basses - Grabber II, Ripper II, G3 tribute, etc. That and I have zero need for another fretted four.

Cool. Looks like I did good on price.

I agree with wanting to play the bass. Luckily the retailer I buy from gives me a month to return no questions asked.

Also, I have pretty much always had a Gibson for the last 25 years. I sold my 3 Les Paul basses recently, but if a Gibson is 34".... I generally dig it.

I haven't like most of the modern gibson necks I've played (tbirds, novoselic tribute, sg basses, etc) but I'd really like to get my hands on these and give them a go. I love the feel of my G3 and Grabber, not sure what they mean when they describe the midtown neck as "comfortable rounded" but if it's anything like the older basses I might be happy.

They probably won't be asking many of these, but white would have been really cool.

I like the blue too but I let my wife help me pick the colour. She thought the sunburst looked classy. Weird as she is a huge Dave Groll fan! Thought she would go blue for sure.

If you are in the Durham area, my midtown will be sent to Oshawa L&M later this month. You are more than welcome to give it a try. I don't think there will be a lot of these on the walls!

Am I the only one who just isn't impressed with the quality of Gibson basses these days? Not to open up a can of worms here, and certainly the same could be said for any Gibson, but in particular... pick up a Grabber after this guy. Holy cow.

Midtown was the name of the guitar line introduced in 2011 - standard, custom, and P-90.

There is a problem with quality control at Gibson . A few years ago I bought a Money bass and it is of a very quality , nicest bass I've ever had in 45 years but I've seen one other for sale in a shop a while back and it was a whole different cat , same with my T-Bird , it's perfection but I've seen some new that aren't . So yes you will have to be aware but it will always be well worth the hassle to have the Gibson sound

I betting it has more to do with the Midtown neighborhood of Memphis where I know a lot of their semi-hollow body guitars are made.
