Gibson Q-80

Does anyone know anything about them?

Have heard that they are made from left over Victory parts, but not sure.

I have a chance at one for dirt cheap, but just can't find much on them:/

Thanks

I don't know a whole lot about them. I owned one at one time. Seems there were other various versions/models. The one I had had an explorer- style headstock (Which looked much better than the headstocks on the explorer basses... IMHO) and I've seen some with a Jackson style headstock; I know Wayne Charvel was involved with Gibson somewhere around this time as well. I even remember seeing pictures of one model with a diamond shape pickup (WRC model?).

Mine also had p-j pickups (I think... it was a long time ago)... Others had the same pickups as the explorer basses (again, I think).

Later there was the Bass IV & Bass V models.

Most had mahogany bodies, decent maple necks with rosewood or ebony boards... I found the one I had to be kind of plain sounding, feeling... Not sure, but if you can get one for cheap, it's an American made instrument... Kind of wish I still had mine to mod the crap out of it.

Yeah. The one I'm looking at has two explorer pickups, two volume, one tone, and has a Jackson style headstock. Has a Gibson custom shop logo on the back of the headstock.

Idk, still trying to find some info on value. This bass isn't in the greatest shape, but for the right price it would be worth it as a project/ mod bass

These are terrific basses for the money. We sell nice ones at 695.00... The parts are not victory items but it may share some keys/bridge sorta stuff

I've had one, with Jackson-style headstock. Mahagony body, maple neck, ebony fingerboard. Two passive humbuckers wired VVT.
Quality-wise it was good, but not stellar. I've expected more from a Gibson with a "Custom shop" label on. No shielding, wiring could be better. Bridge somewhat odd to adjust.
Was not my cup of tea, but played nice and sounded good pickstyle. Fingerstyle not so good, though. Traded it away to some guy who plays death metal with a pick, he was quite happy. Massive, thick sound, pointy and all black, what's not to like? Sounded well with his band, too.

Looked like this.
