| | | | Gibson Ripper Lately I have really been into this guitar. The combination of it's great sound and smooth looks is great and I have been browsing around on ebay and other sites to see what they are going for.
Anyone own one or have experience with one? I think I would want to get a vintage one instead of the reissue ones they have nowadays.
Any opinions on them or stories of personal experience are appreciated.
what do you guys think of this? http://cgi.ebay.com/1970s-Gibson-THE...item3efce36264 |

To me the "series" setting is the one. Big and growly--kind of like a tougher jazz bass. Feels a bit awkward standing up, but I can work with it. As with most stuff you've gotta try one for yourself to see. |

Love it! Still play it everyday. A tad on the heavy side, but great variety of tones and killer fast neck - deep and skinny.
Have had many adventures together!

I've owned 2 Gibson Ripper Fretless
The first one was a brand new bought in Rudy's Music Stop in New York in 1980.
(I had to sell it because of money problems)
And the second one, is a 1978 bought on ebay 1 year ago....
I fell in love with these basses because of a great Bass Player
named Ralphe Armstrong...
He played into the John Mc Laughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra...
Here are both of them...
Gibson Ripper are great long scale basses... I prefer the fretless ones
with ebony fingerboard !!!! |

were missing...
Eventually, I've found both 1978 pieces on Ebay too !!!!!
Now I'm looking for a case, but prices are crazy...
Almost 400 bucks for a 1978-1980 Gibson Ripper case.

| | | | Wow, thanks for the responses, you guys have some amazing looking Rippers.
I'd love to play one for myself before I buy one but I'll have to wait until I find one first haha. That thick/growl/punch tone that is generally associated with this guitar is exactly what I'm looking for in a bass. |

Why not to buy a bass with the case and sell the bass part by part, for a total amount of 1000 USD...
Then you keep the case for free, you'll have 200 extra dollars left in your pocket !!!!!
Wohhh This is capitalism !!!!!!!!!
God Save America !!!!
