Gibson SG

I don't have much knowledge about these basses, so if anyone could enlighten me, I'd appreciate it. Is this essentially the same thing as the EB-3? Same tone? Same specs? I've been shopping around for an EB-3, and if I can get the same thing new for cheaper with an SG, then I'd be into that.

Oh, and when I say "EB-3", I mean the original model from the 60's. I see they make a new one now that's a budget model, also.

I personally don't think that the newer reissues sound much like the originals. They are a good bit clearer in tone, IMO. I restrung a SG reissue with Pyramid flats and it plays very nicely, with very little effort. They are nice instruments with a fair amount of vintage vibe, but with a little modern clarity added in.
