Heres a pic of me playing my white SG reissue. I love it Its punchier than Kimbo Slice on PCP. One thing that does bug me is the neck mudbucker is way louder than the bridge minibucker.

I've heard them live in several bands, and heard them on record with a bunch of others. They're distinctive but in a big, wooly, tubby way. Like someone said; pick and fuzz gets you into awesome territory. I would not hesitate to snag one when I have the money for that kind of thing.

Why do they call them SG's?

I don't understand why they call them that, Gibson didn't make an SG bass (from what I know). They were all the EB series, the SG was the guitar version.

I believe because no one under 30 knows what a Gibson EB bass was (electric bass)

Most people know what an SG guitar is however.

For one thing, it's not an actual reissue. The EB-3 didn't have that control layout, so, while it resembles an EB, it's not.

EB= Mudbucker

SG - LP pickup or modified form of one, that they use in their modern basses (both of them)

Nice -- and kept really well. Wish I could say the same for my very used 1967 EB-3:

I've been playing the new EB-3 (yes, it's STILL the EB-3 to me) at the local GC, and keep falling in love with it more and more, though I like the Mustang too. Perhaps it's the short scale. For whatever reason, the Gibson is just smoother in tone and feel overall, and ya gotta love the nitro lacquer smell. It keeps screaming "buy me!".

now, I'm seriously considering pulling the trigger and financing one of these... I played one a little while ago and loved it... it's a shame my job doesn't give me much room for gear acquisition...

I had an EB0 back around 1972. I loved it and hated it.

I always loved the shape of the body.

So these days I build frankensteined 5 string SG basses from parts.

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.

Serious GAS for the worn brown. Unfortunately, it seems impossible to get one in Australia.
